Humanities embrace the subjects of History and Geography.

History is taught in order that children can gain a better understanding of present day life through questioning past happenings to find an insight into cause and effect and to find both similarities and differences between then and now. Our work is designed to encourage curiosity, research skills, work planning and organisation. We place a high emphasis on educational visits to study areas such as The Romans, Tudors, and Victorians.

Geography is taught with the aim that children will gain as great an understanding and knowledge of the Earth and its properties and their effect on human life:

  • To be aware of differences in local features, starting with the home environment
  • Interpreting and drawing plans and maps
  • The weather
  • Different climates and their effect on the conditions of life for other children
