Shared Learning

Share Mornings with parents

The Teachers at Charsfield and Dennington Schools often invite parents, grandparents and carers to join their children for special lessons. We feel this is a great way to help maintain the great relationships we share and also enable parents to understand the way their children learn in school.

Class 2 at Charsfield recently held a Share Morning where parents helped the children to bake biscuits and cakes to then be sold to raise money for Comic Relief. It was a great success and you can find out more by clicking here.

YBYz - Why Be Wise

Year 5 and 6 pupils from both schools took part in YBYz an Anti-Social Behaviour and Crime Reduction Presentation for schools. The children followed the story of Charlie and the choices she makes on her 10th birthday and the concequences she has to face from the choices she makes. The chilkdren had a brilliant time and then afterwards worked with a partner to write their own poem based on one of the themes from the presentation.

Colchester Zoo Visit

Class Three from both schools visited Colchester Zoo in February as part of their science topic on Inheritance and Adaptation. We enjoyed looking at the animals and even got to feed the giraffes!

Healthy Living Week

To continue to encourage children to celebrate the Olympic legacy and raise the profile of health and fitness in our schools, Teachers organised a special week, beginning 18th november 2013, across both Charsfield and Dennington Schools during which specialist Sports Coaches, Nutirtionists, Aerobics Instructors and even Nurses came in and taught the children about all aspects of staying healthy. We also took this opportunity to encourage children use competition as a way of improving themselves.

Within just this one week Staff noted a boost in confidence, resilience and teamwork between the children. Now the legacy continues with continued sporting events a new found focus on staying active and healthy.

If you click here you can watch a video of what we got up to during Healthy Week 2013.

Sports Day

Each Summer, Charsfield and Dennington Schools take in turns to host the annual Sports Day. It features a range of sporting-skill related activities and a mix of traditional races. The children have a great time meeting up with their friends from each school and competing for their teams.

Class 1 Collaboration

By sharing class themes across the two schools the children are able to take the opportunity to work with their friends on special days. Class 1 recently had an Australia themed day at Dennington School. Although they learned lots and lots of new skills, the biggest challenges came from working with children they didn't know as well. By the end of the day they had made such good friends that they didn't want to leave!

Class 2 Collaboration

Mr Burges and Mr Good work very closely together, sharing lesson planning and ideas to constantly improve what goes on in their classrooms and benefit the childnren's learning.

The children from Class 2 at Charsfield and Dennington love the opportunties given to them to learn together and often get together to celebrate successes and add an additional 'WOW' factor to begin or conclude units of work.

Mr Burges and Mr Good have loved seeing how friendships and confidence have grown between the two classes and look forward to exploring many more shared learning opportunities in the future!

Class 2 from Dennington and Charsfield got together to learn about Archaeology. Click here to find out more!

School Pyramid ICT Days

During the Spring Term Mr Burges (Class 2 Teacher at Charsfield School) hosted two days for children who are high achievers in Computing and Information and Communication Technology.

Children from Charsfield School were joined by others from Dennington, Easton, Sir Robert Hitcham (Framlingham) and Wickham Market. They worked fantastically in mixed groups to learn about film and film language then to develop and create their own short animated films.

Science Days

Every year Mr. Good (the science coordinator) tries to raise the profile of science by loaning equipment from Teacher's Science Network, based in Norwich. The science days we have had so far have broadened children's knowledge and experience, tantalised their curiosity and above all have been thoroughly enjoyable.

More recently, the loan of the portable planetarium was a huge success. Below are images captured form that day.
